Audacity's programs exemplify intentional success by design.  These projects thoughtfully empower students to capture their own narratives. This deliberate approach creates meaningful learning experiences where students develop technical skills while finding their voices—success engineered through purposeful program design.

During Summer 2023, Audacity Performing Arts Project partnered with Sunrise Middle School in downtown San Jose to create a unique student-led documentary exploring the world of cosmetology. This innovative program combined vocational training with documentary filmmaking, empowering middle school students in grades 6-8 to capture their journeys and personal reflections.

The project put cameras directly into the hands of students, allowing them to document their experiences in the cosmetology program while also exploring connections to their lives and families. Students developed their own interview questions, directed the filming process, and shaped the narrative of their documentary.

True to Audacity's mission of creating opportunities at the intersection of art and technology, this entirely student-driven project gave voice to Title 1 students while building valuable skills in both vocational cosmetology and digital storytelling. The documentary format allowed students to develop self-expression and technical abilities while reflecting on their personal growth throughout the program.

At Sunrise Middle School in San Jose, Audacity Performing Arts Project facilitated "Skating for Unity," a compelling student-led documentary that captured the journey of middle school students as they explored the often inaccessible sport of skateboarding.

This inspiring film follows students through their challenges and triumphs as they learn to skateboard, highlighting the power of perseverance, teamwork, and inclusion along the way. Created in collaboration with their school counselor and Audacity teaching artists, the documentary showcases how sports can break down barriers and unite a community.

The project exemplifies Audacity's commitment to empowering young people through creative storytelling at the intersection of art and technology. Students were directly involved in all aspects of the filmmaking process, from conceptualizing the story to filming and editing, allowing them to develop technical skills while documenting their authentic experiences with skateboarding.
