AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Musical Theatre
Audacity brings full musical theatre production to the schools where the students are located (for both parental convenience and so we have the greatest opportunity for the school community to participate).
These are 10 to 12-week after-school productions that begin with formal auditions and end with full production performances. We work with students grades K-8. Productions include professional sound and stage lighting, as well as sets and costumes.
As Audacity’s work exists at the intersection of art and technology, opportunities are also created for students to learn and run various technical aspects of the production as well (set crew, sound, lights, etc.).
Covid-19 Response
In response to the current pandemic, Audacity programs have been curtailed. Those programs that are still in progress have been moved online.
Theatrecraft Workshop
This K-5 program is designed to enhance the learning experience for those students participating in the after-school musicals. This program is run in conjunction with after-school musicals (often between a fall and spring production). Each day students participating in this program will get to choose which activity they desire to participate in for that day. They will have the choice between activities in set design, costume design, dance, acting/improv, and other modules.
When possible, middle school students will be invited to “intern” with their younger peers allowing them the opportunity to share their experience and receive leadership experience.
Covid-19 Response
This program is expected to return to availability during the 2021/2022 school year.
Glee Club
This is a 6-8 grade musical program for vocal ensembles singing arrangements of popular songs. Glee Club is designed for 8-24 students and has no experience requirements. Students work with the musical director to select works that are fun and offer an experience that all participants can enjoy collectively. Songs are captured on video or audio (depending on the venue) and shared with the participating schools. This program typically runs 8-10 weeks during an academic semester.
Covid-19 Response
Audacity’s Glee Club program was developed as an online pandemic program for 6-8 grade (middle school) students. This class can be adapted for grades 3-8. As soon as the local districts and country health officials allow, this program will be converted to an “in-person” format.
Ukulele Class
One of the most accessible musical instruments is currently the ukulele. The first section of this class (Ukulele I) is designed to teach students how to tune their instruments, how to read ukulele chord charts, and teach them a handful of songs they can enjoy on their own. Section 2 (Ukulele II) is designed for those students desiring to learn more about their instrument. This class introduces concepts in musical theory and continues to teach additional songs. As desired by students will also be tutored in songwriting. Each student is provided with an instrument, case, and tuner. This instrument is theirs to keep in order for them to enjoy the benefits of their education beyond the “classroom” experience.
